The movement to strip back smartphones into feature phones or dumb phones is only growing.
We’re seeing this with the rising popularity of distraction-free devices like the Light Phone III and Mudita Kompakt.
The Dumb Phone app gives iPhone users a way to get that same minimalist experience without buying a separate phone.
This article will guide you in transforming your home screen into a simple, text-based app launcher.
Step 1: Configure your app list
First, open the Dumb Phone app and select only the essential apps you want to appear in your widget.

Step 2: Add the widget
Long press on the home screen, then tap the Edit button in the top left corner. Next, select Add Widget and search for "dp" to add the Dumb Phone widget.

To hide the app and widget labels, return to Edit > Customize and choose the Large option instead of the default Small.

Step 3: Set the special wallpaper
Next, save the Dumb Phone wallpaper provided in the app and set it as your home screen wallpaper. Make sure to turn off the Blur setting.

Step 4: Turn off home screen animations
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Per-App Settings, then tap Add App and select Home Screen & App Library.

Tap on Home Screen & App Library, then find and tap on Reduce Motion and set it to On.

Bonus Step: Empty your dock
For a cleaner look, you can remove apps from your dock and rely solely on the widget to access your essential apps.
