YouTube is home to an extensive library of genuinely useful, educational, and inspiring videos.
But, the introduction of YouTube Shorts pushes shorter, sensational content to viewers.
This encourages mindless scrolling and tempts us away from longer-form content in pursuit of quick dopamine hits.
If you want to avoid YouTube Shorts, here are some things you can do:
"Train" your YouTube algorithm
Install Unhook on Chrome, Firefox, and Edge
Install UnTrap for YouTube on Safari
"Train" your YouTube algorithm
While there are no built-in settings to turn off Shorts on YouTube, you can "train" your YouTube algorithm to show you fewer Shorts.

On the web version of YouTube, first look for Shorts section on your Home page. Then click on the three-dot menu icon to reveal the “Show fewer shorts” option and click on it. Then repeat the same whenever you see a Shorts section.

In the YouTube app, do the same when you come across the Shorts section on the Home page. Click on the three-dot menu icon to reveal "Show fewer shorts," and tap it.
Install Unhook on Chrome, Firefox, and Edge
The next option is to install a free browser extension called Unhook.
Unhook allows you to permanently hide Shorts as long as the extension is enabled.

Beyond that, it's a comprehensive extension that allows you to hide more features, such as the homepage, suggestions, comments, and more.
Install UnTrap for YouTube on Safari
The previous extension, Unhook, is unfortunately not available as a Safari extension.
This leads us to UnTrap for YouTube, an alternative for Safari users on iOS and macOS. It requires an upfront fee of $3.99.

Similar to Unhook, you can disable YouTube Shorts and also hide other distracting elements of YouTube.
